What is GOJ CodeFest?

GOJ CodeFest is a 2 day hackathon hosted by eGov Jamaica Limited, a Government of Jamaica organization. Its mission is to enable highly skilled technical staff having expertise in all aspects of Information Technology.

What’s a hackathon?

A hackathon is a magical event where persons spend hours building an idea into reality. It’s about learning new things and coming up with creative solutions with technology.

Our local retailers are feeling pressure from COVID-19 and e-merchants. Create a solution to address this issue to give an edge to our local retailers.


How can we make transportation safe for the commuting public?


Using IoT (Internet of things) detect, deter and report crime.

Rules for Participation

  1. This is a virtual hackathon, laptops and/or desktop computers, internet connectivity and working environment will be the responsibility of each team.
  2. Only GOJ public sector workers residing in Jamaica will be allowed to participate.
  3. Teams entering must comprise of 4-5 team members. You will need someone with development skills and other team members will provide all the necessary support to make your solution successful.
  4. Solutions will be developed using tools from Oracle Live Labs (*Other open source tools may be allowed).
  5. Teams will not be allowed to use technologies and tools that compete with our sponsored brands.
  6. Team members can only be part of one team.
  7. Teams can comprise members across different GOJ entities.
  8. All teams will have 10 minutes to pitch their solution before a panel of judges on October 23, 2020.
  9. Participants agree to have their photograph(s) used as part of promotional activities associated with GOJ CodeFest 2020.
  10. Solutions must not violate any laws, third party rights, contractual agreements or include any branding except for Team and Solution Name.
  11. Teams agree to provide the source code and designs for their solutions to the host of GOJ CodeFest 2020.
